Games

4 drabbles on the topic "Games".

Babysitting (post-Gift)

They had volunteered him to babysit Dawn. He didn’t mind. Better that than one more night of fun with moldy books. Better that than to go on patrol by himself, get drunk, and return alone to his crypt to spill endless, useless buckets of salt and think of one more way he could have saved his Slayer.

Dawn was sulking, when he arrived. The difference wasn’t always clear to her between being mollycoddled and protected. And protect her, he would. He had promised. That didn’t mean he had to treat her like she was five.

“So, Bit, ever played poker?”

RPG (post-Out of my mind)

Spike watched attentively as, under his directions, Harmony put on the underwear and the blue sweater. He would have to think about nicking a pair of pants. Or maybe one of these short skirts. He threw a stake at her, and told her what the game was going to be. Silly bint didn’t even realize it was the scent she wore that made him hard, didn’t realize that, if he squinted a little, the illusion was almost good enough. Didn’t realize that it was more than a game, for him. Now, if only she could have kept her mouth shut…

Just Playing (Fool for Love)

Spike sends one more ball in the corner pocket, and glances up at the Slayer. She hasn’t moved. She’s just holding the cue, watching him with that disgusted look in the depth on her eyes, and he is glad he is just playing with her. Glad he hasn’t told her more than shreds of truth since they started this trip down memory lane. He prefers contempt to pity. He prefers anger to laughter.

But when, a few minutes later, she throws a handful of bills at him, he is left to wonder bitterly which of them played with the other.

Playing pretend (Older and Far Away)

Some guests have fallen asleep, others are watching the television. The two of them are sitting on the floor, and playing cards. A few soft words exchanged, every now and then, but mostly quiet. And it is nice, she thinks as she puts one more card down. Nice to be with him without any pressure to do anything, even if he was a bit pushy, earlier. Nice to be around him without having to hide, or lie to anyone but herself. Nice to pretend, for just a little longer, that things could be as easy as now all the time.
